An operating system that understands itself.
Directioner-OS is an AI-native Linux OS. It keeps a live model of your machine, proposes changes in plain language, and acts only through typed, scoped capabilities.
Status: In development
Built on Fedora bootc, not a fork of it.
Directioner-OS is built by layering configuration, packages and custom Rust services on top of a stock Fedora bootc image. It does not fork or patch Fedora upstream.
The AI Engineer is the single privileged execution path. It reasons over a live world model of the machine, but every action it takes is a named capability, not a raw shell command.
The base operating system is free. AI-driven control-plane capability becomes a paid subscription after a usage rate limit.
What the OS gives the AI to work with.
A live world model
A package and dependency graph, a service graph, a config graph, a filesystem change journal and a health model, kept locally.
Typed capabilities
Actions are named and versioned, such as package.install or service.restart. The AI control plane never shells out to root directly.
Independent enforcement
Capability checks sit alongside kernel and LSM enforcement, so the policy holds even if the reasoning layer is wrong.
Approval gates
A blast-radius score routes each step to auto-allow, notify-after, confirm-before or expert-review.
Rollback and recovery
A/B boot slots, revert-on-failed-boot, continuous snapshots and a one-command guided recovery.
A kill switch
One control revokes every capability token and halts background activity, independent of the AI control plane.
Every change follows the same path.
A request becomes a plan, the plan is checked against policy, and the result is verified before it is called done.
- Intent. You describe the outcome in plain language.
- Plan. The planner proposes steps, assumptions and blast radius. Read-only.
- Policy. Each step is scored and routed to auto, notify, confirm or expert review.
- Execute. Approved steps run through the capability layer in small, checkpointed increments.
- Verify. An independent check confirms the observed result matches the intent.
- Record. The action, its decision and its outcome are written to the Work Log.
